The first thing Anne heard when she came to was the van's engine starting. She felt rope being secured around her ankles. Her wrists were fastened securely behind her back, and everything was dark Her tounge contacted some type of cloth when she tried to speak. The van started to move.
"Don't know why the chief had us go easy on the chloroform." the woman wondered aloud. "it's not as of she's going to worry about long term liver damage."
"He has his reasons." Tim, if that indeed was his name, stated.
Anne felt the van going uphill. She knew where she was going, and whatever awaited her there was most unpleasant. She hoped Drea and Pilar were all right. Perhaps the latter could help her out again, though it was a big risk. For both of them.
Eventually, the van stopped and Anne feet were freed so she could be guided into where ever she was being taken. To her surprise, Anne noticed she was being taken upstairs. She was brought into a room and the gag was removed. A short while later, the door opened and closed again. Her hands were untied, and she pulled off the blindfold. She was in another bedroom, but without the corked walls. It also had a ceiling mirror. Standing by the door was Ted Stoneman. "You don't seem too surprised." he said, with a disappointed tone.
"Who else would?" she asked.
"Indeed. Who else? But enough of this. I suppose you'd like to know what I'm up to."
"It had crossed my mind. But if the location of the plane is what you are after, we haven't found it yet."
"The plane's location is irrelevant. I'm already in the process of hauling as much of the treasure onto my yacht as it is. I don't really care if you, Glenda Chafee, Valdez and his crew, or the Mexican Navy finds the treasure. Though I could make a good deal of money through salvage rights, the main reason is to deal with you uncle."
Anne had no illusions about how Stoneman meant to deal with Jack. "So you suggested to Doctor Flynn she hire us."
"Exaclty. I thought it was odd didn't come down personally from the beginning, but come to think of it, having you two pose as vacationers was a good idea."
"So you thought by grabbing us we'd be perfect bait."
"Of course. The Knight in shining armor rescuing the damsels in distress. Jack Mac Clarey, always playing by the rules. My father played by the rules. You know, that work ethic thing. You know where it got him? Dead at the age of forty-five."
Somehow, Anne thought it prundent not to bring up the fact that Stoneman's brother had broken all the rules and died at an earlier age. "Is that how your brother got started?" she asked.
Stoneman nodded "He sold drugs to pay his way through Law School. And my way through College. Along the way, he bought some companies to cover things and went into the hotel business to increase in income, both open and secret. He had a good thing going for him, until your uncle and his actress freind started messing around. Then he started going after Tom. Not just in L.A, but Jamaica, Baja, St. Thomas and finally, the Caymans. Your uncle destroyed my brother."
Anne couldn't hold back any more "Your brother brought it on himself!"
"I expected as much from you, Ms. Goodie Two-Shoes." Stoneman said calmly, which frightened Anne more than if he were ranting. "Tell me, does your uncle treat you as if you were his own daughter?"
"Yes." Anne said, proudly. "He does."
"Good. Then I shall treat you as I would Mac Clarey's own daughter." With that, he siezed Anne's blouse and tore it open, sending buttons flying in all directions. Before Anne could react, he had the whole blouse off. Two of Stoneman's underlings, who had been watching silently from a corner, rushed foreward to sieze her arms. Once that had been done. Stoneman then pulled down her shorts, which Anne then stepped out of.
"There, that's better." he said. He then noticed one of his ninions producing a strand of rope. "I'll see to this myself."
He took a position behind Anne, where he tightly bound her wrists. However, he did give approval to a bit off cloth produced by a lackey. Stoneman gave Anne's ponytail a yank and the underling stuffed the cloth into her mouth when it opened involentarilly. Stoneman then pulled a scarf from has pocket and used it to secure the packing.
"Now we're getting somewhere." he said. He then placed a finger on Anne's neck. He then took it down along the string of her bikini top to the tip of the triangle covering her left breast. He left it there breifly and then slid it down on the inside of her breast to the where the part connecting the the two cups was. Anne was furious, but Stoneman expected just such a reaction and drew his knees toghter before she could strike him.
He then took a longer bit of rope and used it to secure her upper arms. That done, he tied Anne's ankles as tightly as he could, then pushed her down onto the floor. He then picked up her blouse and shorts and set them on top of a dresser, right next to her beach bag, which had been brought up as well. He left without a further word. Once outside, one of the lackeys asked "What good will she do being kept there?"
"Behind that mirror is a TV camera." he replied. The only way she can get out is with help, and I'm sure there's somebody on the inside. Anybody seen Pilar?"
"Not since early yesterday." was the reply "Something about relatives."
Stoneman's mind was more on Anne, though. Goodie Two-Shoes was right. Probably still a virgin, but that would end. right before her life did.
Drea and Pilar's captivity was slightly less dis comfitting than Anne's. They were given time to stetch, eat and relieve themselves, but as Drea noted, always one at a time and never without two people present. Glenda had learned from the previous evening and wasn't about to repeat her mistake. As the day wore on, she began to have the sickening felling that something was wrong with Anne. If something had indeed happened, Drea reasoned that was all the more reason to escape, but how? Think Rodgers, she told herself. THINK!
Jack had finally made contact with Dr. Flynn, but the lack word from Drea and Anne bothered him, starting at noon, then through dinner, and even as he tucked Mike in. Finally, he decided he had to go himself. As Dr. Flynn had offered him a seat on a chartered flight the following morning, transportaion was no problem. "Are you sure this is the right thing?" Sharon asked.
"We've had no word on them since yesterday." he replied "They would have called in and reported if they would be spending the night on a boat. Never thought it would be like this though. Damn, it seemed so easy."
"It's just after ten, maybe they're waiting til morning to call in. There two hours ahead of us, timewise."
"Possibly, but I don't want to speculate on what might be going on at the moment."
At that moment, a man sat in chair watching the bikini-clad captive on the floor. Normally, the cameras would be catching politicaians or VIP's or other "guests" of Stoneman being set up for blackmail, but not time. He remembered the escape, and Stoneman's promise as to what would be the result of a repeat performance.
The door opened. "Hi Tony!" said. "Trouble sleeping?"
"Yeah." Tony Lopez replied "I thought this'd help me, Dave."
"You came to the right place."
Lopez slapped himself. "How can you stand the skeeters in here?"
"Never noticed"
"You taping?"
Dave pointed to one of the VCR's "Yep"
"Good. Whoa, there's the Queen Mother Mosqutio."
Dave felt Lopez' slap before the bite of the mosquito, odd, Dave thought and went unconcious.
Lopez then opened the door and said "Okay Bobby, you're on!"
Anne was sleeping on and off, and it was difficult to sleep while tied up. A few hours ago, Stoneman had removed the packing to prevent the chance of Anne choking on it in her sleep. Stoneman wanted her to die on his terms. Anne was drosing off when she heard a resauring male voice saying "Anne, wake up."
It wasn't Jack, or Jason. He untied her wrists and loosened the ropes around her arms. "I've brought something for you." he said as he pulled off the gag. He placed a bottle of grape juice into her hands. It was better for her than water, he reasoned due to the nutrients
"This is all I can do for you right now." he said as she drank. As soon as she finished the last drop, she whispered "thank you", for which he re-tied her wrists and replaced the gag. Without further word, he left.
As soon as Sullivan left, Anne realized the rope around her upper arms was loose, and she had some feeling in her fingers. She struggled to with her hands and found the ropes to be loose. After a short time, she managed to shuck the ropes from her wrists, then the ones over her upper arms. Quickly, she removed the gag and untied her ankles. Once she was able to stand, she gathered her bag, donned her shorts and blouse and crept out the door.
"I'm impressed." Sullivan said "You figured things out quicker than I thought."
"Why-?"
"Let's just say I'm no friend of Stoneman's."
"Where are we going?"
"The boat."
The sun was up when Drea woke, but she had a plan. She and Pilar would be allowed a morning shower, which is when she'd strike. Glenda was in her bungalow and Bruno with Stoneman, which left Ilsa and Sylvia in charge of Drea and Pilar.
"You each get a shower." Sylvia said as she untied Drea. "One at a time, and supervised."
Perfect. Drea thought as she undressed. Sylvia closed the bathroom door, but insisted Drea not draw the shower curtain across. She probably enjoys watching me, but she won't expect to be attacked by a naked prisoner, Drea reasoned as she lathered herself. As Drea rinsed off she she beconed Sylvia to come closer, which the other woman misunderstood.
Drea's punch startled Sylvia, who went down hard. Drea quickly took a robe from the hook and used the belt too tie Sylvia, at least loong enough to allow Drea to finish up. Drea opened the door and saw Ilsa, no doubt alerted by the thud. Drea's judo flip left Ilsa stunned long eoungh for the fromer to release Pilar. By the time Drea dressed and had Sylvia brought out of the bathroom, Pilar had tightly bound and gagged Ilsa. Sylvia was subjected to the same treatment."We'd better go out seperate ways" Pilar suggested.
"Yeah." Drea said. "Somethings probably happened to Anne."
Anne woke up on the boat, havong slept longer than she wanted to. Sullivan and Lopez insisted she have breakfast with them, which led to coversation that she had to break off, insisting she needed to contact Jack. As she Approached the hut, she noticed drea also approaching. They hugged , both grateful the other was all right, especially after comparing notes. Once inside, they called. It was almost eleven O'clock
There was no answer, which was odd as Jack was usually at his office by nine. Anne called Jack's cell phone number and the her surprise, Sharon answered. She explained that Jack had been worried when the two failed to report in and had taken off twenty minutes earlier. He and Dr. Flynn were to meet with a Dr. Valdez.
"Doctor Valdez?" Anne echoed. "He's in on the whole thing. Sharon, he's running into a trap!"
